It is with deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Maureen on Sunday March 5, 2017 at her home in Ottawa. She was the cherished daughter of the late Leo Keon and Mary Katherine Dolan. Adored by her twin sister Ann, her sister Regina, and brother Des (Nadene). Predeceased by brothers Joey and John. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, nephews and many friends. Maureen completed her early education at St. Mary’s in Quyon, Quebec and Notre Dame Convent in Ottawa. She earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of Ottawa and completed her studies in education at Queens University in Kingston. She was head of the Algonquin College language institute education faculty for a number of years during her long career at the college. She was active in student affairs and mentored foreign exchange students who called Ottawa home while they completed their studies. She accompanied delegations from Algonquin promoting the college in Asia. Upon retirement Maureen became an accomplished bridge player. She was an active member of St. John the Apostle parish. She was proud of her Irish Catholic roots. She renewed her devotion to St Ann on her annual trip to the shrine at Cormac every July. Her fondest memories were spending vacation and holiday time with her twin sister and best friend Ann and her family in Avalon on the Jersey Shore. Maureen’s outgoing personality is how her family, nieces and nephews and many friends will remember her. Family and friends may pay respects at St. John the Apostle Church, 2340 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. A private interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in the spring. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate if donations were made to Salus (a registered Canadian charity), 2000 Scott Street, Ottawa, ON, K1Z 6T2, or a charity of your choice.
