Ruth Kedey Thompson Boudreau had many names in her lifetime of 95 years, from her childhood as Ruth and into her adulthood when she became "mom," and then finally, beloved "Granny Boo."

Surrounded by the unwavering love of her eight children, Ruth died of natural causes on Feb. 11, 2017 at McCormick Home in London Ontario.

She was born a Thompson on July 21, 1921 to Frank and Agnes Thompson of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the middle sister to Helen (Turley) and Jane (McKeague).

Ruth moved to Terrace Bay, Ontario, where as Nurse Thompson and, not knowing her name would soon change, she was destined to meet the love of her life, Paul Boudreau, The couple was married Dec. 17, 1949, and began building their family and legacy, which are inextricably intertwined as evidenced in the paragraph below.

Forever Loved by:
Greg-Patti (Paul, Emily, Kyle)
Jane – Alan (Todd (Jen), Jenny (Jim), Chris (Ulyana), Ali (James), Michael (Kathy), Jessica (Shane)
Anne – Marty (Tyler, Sara (Matt))
Susan – Mike (Erin (Tyler), Catie (Michael), Molly (Lauren), Sammy (Phil), Emma)
Ellen – Peter (Gill, Megan (Travis), Matt, Joey)
Patricia - Steve (Shannon (Chris), Teri, Jacki, Greg)
Mary Lou – Terry (Ben, Sam, Hannah, Jake)
Paula – Adam (Emma, Lilli, Joseph)

Not to be outdone, the next generation of Ruth's 20 existing great-grandchildren will hear stories of her sharp wit, her love for crossword puzzles, and her infectious sense of adventure. Her memory will serve to teach the young ones about knitting, the card game Bridge, and especially pies and butter tarts.

Ruth was a woman of deep faith and lived her beliefs. Her love for life was renowned among her family, but also included her friends. She met her best friend Agnes Comack in nursing school and the two would pursue a lifetime of shenanigans and adventures together, including an infamous hot air balloon ride to celebrate their 75th birthdays.

She loved to watch people, a skill she picked up through her voracious reading of mysteries, especially Agatha Christie. Humble and down-to-Earth, Ruth didn't crow about her knitted wool creations that would find themselves on her children’s/grandchildren's hands and backs, but each gifted piece was beloved and treasured. Ruth loved being around her family, and was often heard extolling a reverent "Ooh lala" when presented with something particularly lovely, especially if it was just a delicious “HOT DOG”.

For these reasons and a million more unlisted here, Ruth radiated kindness, grace, courage, determination and a quiet strength. It was uncommon to hear a harsh word from her, and her grandchildren flocked to her, for they knew they would be loved and likely hear a few great wisecracks.

Ruth was the glue keeping her multitudinous family together, and she will be missed and remembered across the continent of North America and beyond. Her family knows that she is now with her beloved Paul, who preceded her in death in 1979.

Family and friends may pay respects at the
Kelly Funeral Home - Carling Chapel
2313 Carling Avenue, Ottawa, ON, K2B 7G3
613-828-2313
Friday, February 17, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Trinity United Church, 1099 Maitland Avenue, on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place later in the spring at St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Kelly’s Landing.

Ruth's family would like to thank the staff at McCormick Home for their loving care of Ruth and support to her family provided over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations to McCormick Home Foundation, 2022 Kains Road, London, ON, N6K 0A8, or a charity of choice in Ruth’s name, would be appreciated.
