KEOGH, Muriel Jean
August 10, 1923 – August 22, 2016
With profound love and gratitude for having had her in our lives, the family of Muriel Keogh announces her passing on August 22nd – a dozen days after celebrating her 93rd birthday at Carleton Lodge. Muriel Jean Keogh (aka: Moo, Moody and Auntie Moo), 93 years young. Outstanding Sister, Sister-in-law, Aunt, Great-Aunt, dear friend, mentor, tireless volunteer and promotor of social justice and equality, spiritual guide, philanthropist and genuinely incredible person. Predeceased by her parents, P. Thomas Keogh and Annie Elizabeth Gray, and by her much-loved siblings: Joan (Col. Bill Rankin), Betty Keogh, Rita (Clay Kingsbury), and Margaret (Skippy) Keogh. Muriel is lovingly remembered by her brother Thomas Keogh and his wife Margaret (Dineen). Muriel was the devoted, fun-loving and forever-loved “Auntie Moo” of Anne Kingsbury, David Kingsbury and Sophie Thibodeau, Jane and Roy Patterson, Nancy and Jim Gallagher, Debbie and Ian Carpenter, Peter and Camella (Pino) Kingsbury, Michael Kingsbury, Mary Rankin, Bill Rankin and Karen Lara, Eileen Rankin, Cathy and Paul Merkel, Kathy Keogh and Peter Bruneau, Kristy Keogh, and Michael Keogh, and was the Great Aunt of 21 and Great-Great Aunt of 1. Muriel retired after a 30-year Career with the Public Service Commission, giving her even more time to spend serving God, St. Basil’s Parish, her community, to enjoy time with family and friends and to travel. Muriel’s volunteerism included work with Project 4000, CNIB, L’Arche House, Scarboro Foreign Missions, St. Basil’s Food Cupboard, Parish Council, Liturgy Committee and Ministry of Communion, to name just a few. Her lifetime of generous support to numerous charities was second only to never missing a Birthday or special occasion within her large extended family and wide circle of friends. Muriel was kindness personified. Always there for her family, her friends and her community with a laugh, a hug, a shoulder to cry on and whatever support was needed. An advocate for the marginalized, for women, for the developing world and anyone in need. Muriel and her Sister, Betty, were outstanding hostesses and party-givers, particularly during the Huron Avenue days – creating warm and lasting memories for family and friends from as far away as England, Dominica, Barbados and Belgium. Muriel was a one-of-a-kind, very special woman and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, including her special gal-pals: Toddy Kehoe, Helen Sutherland, Carmel Horan and Sr. Maria Houthoofdt. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of Carleton Lodge, with special hugs to all the Angels on Goulbourn Village Unit for your loving and compassionate care of “Moo” and her family.
