Laframboise, Guy Louis Joseph George Alfred
MD FRCS (C).

Guy Laframboise, of Ottawa, died on Sunday, August 24, 2014 ―the day of his 87th birthday― at Bruyère Hospital, after a long struggle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Anne, son Guy (Vanessa Benitz), daughters Lise O’Neill (Daniel), Lorraine, Julie Murphy (Daniel), Estelle “Teddie” (Andy de Ste. Croix), Moira, Deirdre, Nicole (Phillip Akins), eighteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his loving brother André Laframboise (Karin). Born on August 24, 1927 in Ottawa, Guy attended Lasalle Academy, Loyola College (Montreal), the University of Ottawa, and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed his Fellowship in Otolaryngology in 1958. Guy had a distinguished medical career as both surgeon and educator, serving as Chairman of the Departments of Otolaryngology at the Ottawa General Hospital and the University of Ottawa. Known fondly as “Doc” to his grandchildren and admirers, Guy dedicated himself to medicine, to his beloved Mary Anne, and to his large family, sharing with them his love of nature, sport and adventure. A world class alpine skier, Guy held the record time at the Lake Placid Men’s Downhill for several years in the 1940s. Guy was a true “Renaissance” man― tall, dark and handsome, athletic, a self-taught farmer and carpenter, and a rugged outdoorsman. He combined his passion for fly-fishing, hunting, canoeing, and farming with a deep appreciation for literature, art (he loved to paint), and music. A playful intellectual, he did not suffer fools easily, but was always ready with a corny joke and hearty laugh. Most important were his generous heart and open, enquiring mind. “Doc” leaves behind a unique legacy and will be greatly missed. Family and friends may pay respects at the
Kelly Funeral Home – Barrhaven Chapel
3000 Woodroffe Avenue, Nepean, ON, K2J 4G3
613-823-4747
Friday, August 29, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Mass in Memory of Guy will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Visitation Church, 5338 Bank Street, on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. In Memoriam donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
